RMFA to showcase works by Sean Ware

January 31, 2024

The Rochester Museum of Fine Arts is pleased to announce “Streetview”, an exhibition featuring a series of works by Sean Ware in the Carnegie Gallery, at the Rochester Public Library.

Sean Ware is an artist and educator based in Portland, Maine. He focuses on capturing the changing dynamics of everyday environments. His paintings highlight the nuances of fading light, passing storms, and the resilience of growing weeds, prompting viewers to find something new in the familiar.

With a background in art education, Ware has taught at various institutions, including the Illustration program at Ringling College of Art & Design and as a visiting instructor at Berea College.

Ware’s artistic approach has evolved from scouting traditional painting locations to drawing inspiration from virtual explorations. His ongoing series of cityscapes originates from navigating the streets and alleys of Google Maps at street level, revealing patterns, atmospheres, and optical illusions that inform his work.

In both his art and educational contributions, Ware remains dedicated to showcasing the ever-evolving world around us, inviting audiences to rediscover the beauty within the ordinary landscapes that shape our daily experiences.

The exhibition will be on view from February 5, 2024, until April 5, 2024, with a reception planned for March 2, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The public is encouraged to attend. The Rochester Public Library is located at 65 South Main Street, Rochester, NH 03867. Visit seanwarepainting.com and www.rochestermfa.org to learn more.

The museum is sponsored by the City of Rochester, Rochester Main Street, Waterstone Properties Group, Bernier Insurance, Meredith Village Savings Bank, Creative Guts Podcast, and the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce.
