RMFA presents works by Alex Leith in the Bernier Room

March 4, 2024

The Rochester Museum of Fine Arts is pleased to announce “Chromatic Limbo: Energetic Landscapes Emerging from Reference and Invention”, an exhibition featuring a series of works by Alex Leith in the Bernier Room, at the James W. Foley Memorial Community Center.

Alex Leith, a native of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, spent his formative years in the unique environment of a family-run funeral home, providing him with a distinctive backdrop for his artistic journey. His educational path led him to the University of New Hampshire, where he pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree specializing in painting and printmaking from 2008 to 2014.

Eager to further cultivate his passion for the arts and culinary endeavors, Alex made the move to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 2021, he returned to his roots, settling in Newmarket, NH, where the surrounding landscapes became a focal point in his evolving artistic practice.

Alex’s work is a nuanced exploration of the interplay between texture, color, shape, and mark-making, seeking to capture the luminous movements of creative forces that exist beyond the literal field of vision. His paintings serve as vibrant representations of the spirit inherent in the landscape, transforming scenes into energetic expressions that extend beyond the visual into a realm of artistic vitality.

The exhibition will be on view from March 4, 2024, until May 3, 2024, with a reception planned for April 6, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The public is encouraged to attend. The James W. Foley Memorial Community Center is located at 150 Wakefield Street, Rochester, NH 03867. Visit www.alexleith.com and www.rochestermfa.org to learn more.

The museum is sponsored by the City of Rochester, Meredith Village Savings Bank, Creative Guts Podcast, and the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce.
