RMFA presents digital works by Ryan Nelsen

November 3, 2024

The Rochester Museum of Fine Arts is pleased to announce “A Lot Closer”, a digital art exhibition featuring works by Ryan Nelsen in The Pixel Room, in Suite 135 of the James W. Foley Memorial Community Center, starting November 4, 2024.

Ryan Nelsen is an illustrator whose vibrant, mixed-media creations bring a playful, whimsical energy to life. His journey with art began with a Magna Doodle and a three-year-old’s drawing of Thomas the Tank Engine. Today, Ryan combines traditional and digital techniques to create textured, imaginative pieces, starting many of his works with freeform scribbles, paper cuts, and layered collages.

His work has received accolades from the Society of Illustrators, 3×3 Magazine, The HUG, and Communication Arts. A member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, Ryan aims to inspire audiences to reconnect with their inner child.

Ryan is currently a Visual Designer at Scholastic in New York City and is represented by the Bright Agency for his writing and illustration of picture books. He holds a BFA in Illustration from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY.

When not drawing, Ryan enjoys tennis, playing the drums, and rooting for the Yankees.

“A Lot Closer” will be on display from until January 31, 2025, with an informal gathering planned for December 7, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The public is encouraged to attend. The James W. Foley Memorial Community Center is located at 150 Wakefield Street, Rochester, NH 03867. Visit www.ryanimate.com and www.rochestermfa.org to learn more.

The museum gratefully acknowledges the generous support of its corporate sponsors, community partners, and collaborators, including the City of Rochester, Meredith Village Savings Bank, Back Hill Beer Co., Creative Guts Podcast, and the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce.
