The Rochester MFA began exhibiting films in September 2013. Each year, the museum invites the public to the historic Rochester Opera House to screen independent movies in an informal way. The series is designed to bring people together in a relaxed environment, through the love of film.
The Rochester Opera House is a magnificent theatre with stunning architectural details, a horseshoe balcony, a grand proscenium, intricate stenciling, and near-perfect acoustics. The theatre is also equipped with a unique mechanism that raises the auditorium floor at an incline for amphitheater seating or levels the floor for dancing. It is the only known moving floor in the world.
Together, the Rochester Museum of Fine Arts and Rochester Opera House are dedicated to featuring independent films, of various genres, in Rochester, NH.
